Too Good Pond in December

Bare branches and an almost black and white scenary on Dec 19, 2009

Same spot on November 1, 2009 - trees still had some colors at that time.
Winter helps us appreciate the beauty of spring, summer and fall.

ROM's Michael Lee-Chin Crystal

Visited the ROM last weekend for the Dead Sea Scroll exhibition. This glass structure (the Crystal) at the ROM is selected as one of the world's ugliest buildings. The contrast between the Crystal and the old traditional building probably made the Crystal unpopular. Guess it is difficult to appreciate modern art sometimes. By the way, the Dead Sea Scroll exhibition should be renamed as Dead Sea Scroll FRAGMENT exhibition. Only fragments of the dead sea scrolls were displayed, which made me disappointed.

Sunrise at my backyard

This was 7:50 am on Monday Oct 19. I ran out with my camera and took this picture. It would be even nicer if the tree has bare branches instead of leaves. However, I don't know if I would still go out to take pictures at that time as it would be much colder...

Art and architecture

I visited the Denver Art Museum in June 2007. The architecture of this building is a piece of modern art in itself.

More Canadian Geese

Saw them at Too Good Pond. Many visitors feed them so they are fatter than the ones at Mill Pond. Still graceful though.

Yin Yang

Does anyone know the name of this creature? Found them at the Too Good Pond in Unionville ON. Also saw them in Gainesville FL.

Canadian Geese

Canadian geese are graceful birds. They are inhabitants of the Mill Pond and frequent visitors to the hospital grounds. I loved to see them fly. However, I still need to find a chance to catch that in pictures.

Old Montreal

Had a scenic walk in Old Montreal along the St. Lawrence River on Sept 13. It was cloudy at first but sunny afterwards. Loved the European flavor and the old buildings in the area. Coincidentally, it was the day of the Montreal International Marathon. Friendly bystanders cheered the runners on. The Basilica of Notre-Dame was holdindg a Sunday service, so my friends and I could not take the tour. Will be back next time I visit Montreal!

Pharmacies in Montreal

As usual, I went looking for pharmacies during my stay in Montreal. I was looking for a Pharmaprix for a special hair product that is only available in Montreal, but failing to get what I wanted, I took a picture of the store instead. I noticed that this store is a 22h store, not the 24h store we have in Ontario.

The Chinese name of this pharmacy in the Montreal Chinatown area is the same as a large pharmacy chain in Hong Kong. However, the French name is simply "pharmacie"!

Montreal at night

Had a nice stroll down St. Catherine Street at night on sept 11. Temperature was just right. All the big stores such as La Maison Simons, Apple, Laser Legend, etc were there! Also surprised to find rental bikes on the streets.

Fairmont Queen Elizabeth

I attended a conference in the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal last weekend. Really enjoyed my stay at this luxury hotel. It is only a short walk to the busy Saint Catherine's Street and the famous Simons store!

09/09/09

I had this soft-centered, hazelnut milk chocolate hedgehog to celebrate this special day of 09/09/09. It is made by Purdy's Chocolates. Very yummy indeed.

Geese crossing - watch out!

The grass is greener on the other side - even Canadian geese thought so. I witnessed a pack of Canadian geese crossing a busy road just outside the hospital when I went to work this morning. Having a camera with me, I took this series of pictures. The geese are very clever!

Pharmacies in Gainesville

Of course, no trip is complete without pictures of local pharmacies. I took 2 pictures of pharmacies in Gainesville, both of them belong to big pharmacy chains in the US. I did not have a chance to drive around to find small independent pharmacies. However, the CVS pharmacy was the place I walked to (no I did not have a car and yes under the hot Florida sun) for some grocery and cosmetic items during my 2-week stay in Gainsville in August 2008. It is definitely a place to remember!

Disney Downtown

Spent an evening (Aug 8) in Downtown Disney and found the place extremely crowded. Went back on the morning of Aug 11 - it was very quiet then, so took lots of pics.

Chocolate strawberries

Cute chocolate-coated strawberries from the Old Fire Hall Confectionery on Main Street, Unionville. The chocolates and ice-creams in this store are irresistable!

Back from the hometown of Mickey Mouse

I had a great time in Orlando visiting the Disney Hollywood Studios and other places. Some poeple cannot wait to get inside the park - they stopped their vehicle at the side of the road to take pictures! I will post more pictures from my trip in the next few weeks.

Markham Mews Pharmacy

This is the first pharmacy where I worked as a student in May 1997. Hmmm...good memories.

Loonie Shake

My favourite milkshake has shrunk in size! However, it is still $1 and is still yummy. It was sold at $1 at least from 1997 when I learned about it from my preceptor during my one-month student rotation at the Markham Mews Pharmacy. It has been priced the same during the last 12 years, so understandably the volume needs to shrink to catch up with inflation. Also, fewer calories with the smaller volume means a healthier snack. Oh well, I shouldn't complain...

Traffic jam at the border

Traffic came to a halt when I approached the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge last Sunday afternoon. The truck lane was wide open with the "autos prohibited" sign over it, so drivers could not use that lane. It took an hour before I could get to Customs - what a waste of time! If drivers could use the truck lane during weekends traffic should be much improved.

Shopping

This picture was taken in Denver in June 2007. The similarity in outfits of these girls drew my attention - did they call each other before coming out to shop?! (PS: I had lots of fun shopping in Buffalo and Niagara Falls last weekend! Deals were great - bought enough to last 3 years!)

Pharmacies in Turkey

Two pharmacies in Kusadasi, Turkey. Seems like Turkey uses a green cross as the sign of pharmacy. The Bowl of Hygeia is also featured. Note the drugs advertised in the window of the first pharmacy...
